Saturday, January 25, 11:00am - 2:00pm
For parents and their children ages 2 to 5 years.  
No registration is required.
Children: Join a parent & child interactive program, based on shadows, that includes a guessing game, movement, and shadow puppet play. Activities will be offered at 11:30am, 12:30pm, or 1:30pm.
Parents: Visit with local preschool providers and other early childhood education experts. 


Our printed Highland Library newsletter for the events in the months January through May will be arriving in residents' mailboxes the week of January 6.
 
The Library will be closed on the following days:
Tuesday, December 31 and Wednesday, January 1 for the New Year's holiday.

Join us for lively discussion in a friendly environment. Pick up a copy of the book at the Adult Reference Desk about a month before the meeting date. 
This month's book is The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman.

New to computers? This is a BASIC introduction to computers and the Windows operating system. You'll want to be familiar with using a mouse before attending.

6:00pm - 7:45pm
An introduction to the popular word processing program Microsoft Word 2007. Learn how to create, edit, and enhance your documents. We'll also try to cover basics like cut, copy and paste.
Mouse skills and basic Windows proficiency required.
 
Thursday, January 30
2:00pm - 4:00pm
An introduction to the world wide web! Topics include getting on the internet, navigation with a browser, bookmarking favorite websites and basic online safety. Mouse skills and basic Windows proficiency are required. This is a good class to take after Computer Basics.
 
Thursday, January 30, 6:00pm - 7:45pm
An intro to the popular spreadsheet program. We will cover basic formatting, formulas, and mathematical operators.  Windows proficiency and mouse skills are required.
 
 
 

Teen Programs

Go was invented 4,000 years ago.
Magic: The Gathering was introduced in the early 1990s. Can players of these two games share the same space on the same night? We think they can! Gamers unite! Drop in to play, no registration required. Newcomers always welcome!

Dust off those Pokemon cards in the back of your closet!  At these gatherings, you can battle, trade, or whatever.  Thanks to Travis Trimper, our League Leader.

Pizza, pop and a flick! Come watch 
The Lone Ranger this month.  Please register online if you'd like to partake in the munchies.

A playgroup for care-givers and preschool-age children.  
New to the area? This is a great way to meet people. No registration required.

2:30pm - 4:30pm
Ages 8 years and up.
Play chess with older students who can teach you the game. If you already know how to play, drop in and practice your skills with other students in the class. Also meets Feb 8. Additional dates will be added as needed.

Sat, Jan 18, 2:00pm
Ages 6 to 12 years.
Practice your weather reporting skills after you make this adorable snow gauge snowman.

For children 18-36 months at time of registration.
This storytime is designed to help children with socialization, cognitive and large motor development. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. Please make other arrangements for siblings.

Tuesdays at 10:30am
Jan 21, Jan 28, Feb 4, Feb 11.
For ages 3 to 5 years.
This class emphasizes independence and reading readiness. Children need to be able to sit and listen to stories on their own. Crafts and movements songs are included.
