Summer Reading Final Parties
Summer Reading is still going strong!  There is still time to join the fun - just stop at a Reference Desk to sign up and be eligible to win some fun prizes!
 
Adults and Teens: Tuesday, August 19 will be our final party and laboratory!  Come for some food, fun and games, and a whole lot of prize drawings.  Keep reading until then - the more you read, the better your chances to win. Please register if you (and your family) would like to join the Final Party.
 
Kids: Join Alex Thomas & Friends on Saturday, August 16 at 2:00pm for an interactive puppet show that will entertain adults and children of all ages.  After the show we will celebrate your reading accomplishments with an ice cream treat!  Please register if you and your family would like to join in the fun!
 
 
The Library will be closed Saturday, August 30 through Monday, September 1 for the Labor Day Holiday.
 

 

Events and Programs
Tuesday, August 19
For adult & teen members of the Summer Reading Club, and their families.
Celebrate the end of summer reading with your fellow bibiovores!  We'll have food, fun and games.  Who will the winning team be: Curie, Einstein, Pasteur, or Tesla?  Prize drawings for grand prizes and door prizes will be held at this time.  Please register and join us!
 
Book Discussion Group
Lively discussions in a friendly environment are held the second Weds of each month at 6:30pm.  Copies of the books will be available for loan at the reference desk.  Join us for one or all of the discussions.
The Book Ends will take a summer break in August and will meet up again on September 10.

Teen Programs
Friday, August 1, 5:00pm - 9:00pm
Online author visit, games (Minecraft, videogames, board games, etc.), maybe a craft or two, and food.  What's not to love?  Signed permission slips are required - pick up one at the Adult Reference Desk.

Monday, August 4, 5:30pm - 7:30pm
Go was invented 4,000 years ago.  Magic: The Gathering was introduced in the early 1990s. Can players of these two games share the same space on the same night? We think they can! Gamers unite! Drop in to play, no registration required. Newcomers always welcome!
 
Monday, August 11, 5:30pm
Pizza, pop, and an awesome flick.  Just register ahead of time to make sure you get some noms. This month we'll be watching Divergent.
 
Monday, August 18, 5:30pm
The Longway Planetarium Science Museum of Flint, in conjunction with the UofM-Flint Chemistry Department has devised hands-on science activities just for you! Session 3: Colorful Chemistry.
Explore acids and bases while using a variety of pH indicators. Make and use your own smelly indicator for testing pH. Enjoy several color-changing demonstrations and activities.

Monday, August 25,
5:00pm - 8:00pm
Dust off those Pokemon cards in the back of your closet!  At these gatherings, you can battle, trade, or whatever.  Thanks to Travis Trimper, our League Leader.

Tuesday, August 26, 
Noon - 8pm
Play, build, paint. We focus on WH40K, but feel free to bring your WH Fantasy or LOTR army. Or any other tabletop army! Newcomers are always welcome.  Open to teens and adults.

 

Art & Science
Tuesdays at 6:00pm:
August 5 and 
For ages 3-7 years.
Science never looked so beautiful! Create a masterpiece in this artistic program.

Wed's at 10:30am:  
August 6 & 13
For ages 3-6 years.
Little Einsteins will observe and experiment, just like real scientists!

Friday, August 8
10:30am - Noon
For ages 7-12 years.
Drop in to make your own animation. Once you learn how it is done, you can create your own mini movies!

Saturday, August 9, 10:30am
For ages 6-10 years.
Discover the intriguing properties of soap and bubbles. Make a soap-bubble print and your own bubble wand.
 
Tuesday, August 12, 10:30am
For ages 3-18 months.
Give your baby some special attention in this storytime just for them!
Weds, August 13,
6:00pm
For ages 5-12 years.
Join us for this program that uses our LEGO and your imagination to create our library display!

Summer Reading Final Party:

Book Cart
Buy a great used book any time the library is open!  Located in the Front Lobby.

Book Donations are taken any time the library is open at the Front Desk.  If donations are not added to our circulating collection, books will go to the Friends for their book sales.
